CLEVELAND INDIANS PITCHER COREY KLUBER LAUNCHES CHARITABLE FAMILY FOUNDATION BY HOSTING FIRST-EVER CURVEBALL FOR A CAUSE (September 17, 2018)

Less than 48 hours after the Cleveland Indians clinched the American League Central division for the third straight year, Corey Kluber and his wife, Amanda, launched their family foundation, The Kluber Family Foundation, by hosting the first-ever Curveball for a Cause fundraising event at The Metropolitan at the 9.

To celebrate the launch of their newly formed family foundation, Corey and Amanda Kluber welcomed over 220 guests to The Metropolitan at the 9 in addition to 24 of Corey’s Cleveland Indians teammates including Jason Kipnis, Francisco Lindor, Josh Donaldson and Andrew Miller.

Guests enjoyed a high-spirited cocktail reception in the century-old bank vaults beneath the Cleveland Trust Rotunda located inside The Metropolitan at 9. During the dinner program, guests were treated to an exciting live auction featuring exclusive items such as a round of golf with Corey Kluber, tickets the 2019 All-Star Game and batting practice with Corey Kluber. Later in the evening, Corey and Amanda were joined on stage by two groups of people that inspired the Kluber’s to start a charitable foundation.

Corey and Amanda began their philanthropic vision by starting Kluber’s Kids –on select home games, Corey and Amanda host a child from Cleveland Clinic Children's. As part of this program, the child and his or her family watch batting practice on the field, receive Kluber jerseys and watch the game that night from the Club Lounge. The Burch Family, a Kluber’s Kids family that met the Kluber’s in May, joined Corey and Amanda on stage to speak to the impact both Corey and Amanda have created for their family.

The Kluber’s were also joined by Ali Rieman, a young girl who Amanda made a connection with when making smoothies at a local hospital. Ali and Amanda had an instant connection when they first met and often kept in touch when Ali was going through her treatments. When Amanda had the opportunity to give away World Series tickets in 2016, she couldn’t think of a better and more deserving person that Ali.

Ali spoke to the impact, joy and inspiration that both Corey and Amanda have brought to her life and encouraged guests to share the mission and good work that the Kluber’s are leaving in Cleveland.

Over $150,000 was raised in support of The Kluber Family Foundation. Proceed from the event will go towards launching Corey’s Locker, which will provide admitted seriously ill and chronically ill patients and their family members with access to electronics that will serve as a source of entertainment, a portal for communication and a diversion during treatment and recovery. The electronics will also provide educational and entertainment opportunities to older patients and their families through access to iPads, notebook computers, tablet computers, portable DVD players, portable game systems and other electronics. This initiative will launch in 2019.

The event was made possible by the following sponsors: Cleveland Indians and Studiothink.

IMPACT

Corey and Amanda have spent time in children’s hospitals and have seen the impact that having a sick child has on the entire family. They hope to connect with these families to help make the road a little easier through their programming.

NEED

Children with serious and chronic illnesses endure constant difficulties. Limited mobility, regular hospital visits, time away from school, financial instability, and painful physical conditions all work to lessen their quality of life.

WHY?

Since joining the Indians in 2011, Corey has become one of the team’s most involved players in the community. Corey and his wife have made numerous visits to Cleveland children’s hospitals and met with many families who have children battling for their lives.

IMPACTING LIVES ONE
FAMILY AT A TIME.

The mission of The Kluber Family Foundation is to impact the lives of families who have seriously ill and chronically ill children, by providing them with daily support through live-improving resources and life-changing experiences.
